Which is the Best Saving Cream?
The best shaving creams provide a slippery lubrication film that will allow a sharp razor blade to slide over the skin while cutting the hair. It can also soften hair and skin which makes the shaving experience pleasant instead of painful.
Let’s take a look at some of the best shaving creams. I have used many shaving creams and gels and foams.
Cremo Shaving Cream
Cremo is probably the most popular shaving cream on the market and for good reason….it’s fantastic. The founders of Cremo, Mike Boone and Kyle Schroeder, set out to create the absolute best [or Barber Grade] shaving cream possible after using inferior shaving products for years. They said, “There must be a better way.” And there was.
Cremo shaving cream is not cheap at $7.99 per 6 oz. squeeze tube. The tube should last about 3 months depending on how much you like to use. You should only need a small dime sized dap to lather your face.
I used to use shaving foams and gels for over 30 years to shave my face. I never looked at shaving creams until I started using a safety razor. The first time I used the Cremo shaving cream I was surprised how slippery it is. It is VERY SLIPPERY. Like nothing I’ve ever used before. It’s like grease. And a little goes a long way.
Cremo shaving cream is the slipperiest shaving product I have ever used. It performs extremely well and makes any razor, safety or disposable, glide over your skin without effort. It also softens hair and your skin. After the shave, your skin feels soft and moisturized and not scraped and raw.
Cremo is not like using a shaving gel or foam. You soak your face or skin with warm water and then squeeze out a small dime sized dap of Cremo and spread it over your skin in a circular motion. If you add a little water to the Cremo, it will become even more slippery. Now you can start shaving with any type razor. Cremo shaving cream works great with any type razor, even a straight razor.
I love everything about Cremo shaving cream with the exception of washing out the washcloth when you get Cremo on it. It does not wash out easily like a shaving foam does. It’s greasy and takes some effort to wash it out. You have to use soap and water to get it all out. Aside from that minor issue, I love Cremo.
Van Der Hagen Shave Butter
Van Der Hagen makes some of the best shaving products available even though you might not heard of them. They make some of the best shaving soaps. You have to try them.
Shave Butter is a super slick shaving cream that makes any razor or blade glide over your skin without effort. You don’t even know you’re shaving. Say good bye to razor burn and skin irritation and dry skin. Shave butter is like a skin lotion and skin lubricant all in one.
Another plus is that Shave Butter won’t dry out or dissipate like shaving gel, soap and foams do. It will stay moist for hours.
Van Der Hagen Shave Butter is simple to use. Just wash your face or skin with warm water. Squeeze out a small portion of shave butter and apply to your skin in a circular fashion. You can add a little water to make it more slippery. Now shave.
When you’re done shaving, you can rub in the remaining shave butter. It acts like a skin lotion too. It has Shea, Mango and Coco butter in it. It’s great for your skin and will prevent your skin from drying out after shaving. Shave Butter retails for $5.99 per 6 ounce tube.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream
Taylor of Old Bond Street products are manufactured in London, OK and are as you might expect premium. They offer luxury shaving cream and it is very good. It’s the ultimate way to pamper your skin when shaving.
Taylor of Old Bond Street was established in 1854. So they have been around for a very long time. They must be doing something right?
Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream comes in a plastic bowl and is 150 grams in weight, which is about 5.3 ounces. A screw on cap keeps the cream fresh and contamination free.
So what’s in the shaving cream?
Water, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Acid, Glycerin, Perfume, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.
There are only 11 ingredients which in today’s standards is very low. If you’re looking for products with fewer and more natural ingredients then this is one to check out.
TOBS [Taylor of Old Bond Street] is a very thick and rich cream that will moisturize and soften your skin and hair. It’s very lubricating and makes any razor glide over your skin. You will not get razor burn or any skin irritation that can be caused by a razor blade scraping your skin. There is nothing like a shaving cream. If you are using a shaving foam or gel, you will be amazed when you try a shaving cream. It’s way different.
There are 9 fragrances to choose from. I love the Sandalwood scent. It’s manly but not too strong. It retails for $16.99 per tub.
The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream
The Art of Shaving offers high end luxury shaving products from Proctor & Gamble. They are made with few ingredients and are hypoallergenic. If you are looking for natural ingredients that are safe for your skin then check the shaving cream out.
The Sandalwood Shaving Cream is one of my favorites because the scent is mild and manly. You can use the shaving cream with a shaving brush or just with your fingers. it works fine with both. It’s made with Coconut Acid which is really just coconut oil and natural extracts. It also has a high concentration of glycerin and no dyes or alcohol. Glycerin is derived form vegetable oil or animal fats and is a good moisturizer for your skin.
The Art of Shaving shaving cream provides excellent lubrication and softens hair and skin. It will also condition your skin. You don’t have to wash it off after shaving. You can rub it in and it will act like a skin lotion. It smells terrific too.
You use a shaving cream just like a shaving foam or gel. You squeeze a small portion out or dab some out of the tub and lather it up on your skin. You can add a little water to create more lather. I use circular motions for a few minutes and then shave with either a safety razor or disposable razor. After I’m done shaving, I rub the remaining cream into my skin.
The Art of Shaving products are top of the line. The shaving cream is super slippery. Shaving creams are much thicker than gels or foams and they lubricate much better. You won’t get razor burn or skin irritations any more. No nicks either.
The Art of Shaving shaving cream comes in squeeze tubes and tubs and retails for about $24 for the 5 ounce tub. It’s not cheap but it is very good.
